Managing Finances Well Helps us Avoid Many Stressors Every Day
Professional therapists say that the average person can take in at
most two big stressors in a day. The third one can damage the
person in terms of, for example: a sleepless night for that day,
very frayed nerves, irritability, inability to concentrate for a
few days, and many more. In today's present environment, when
stressors can come to us not only through the news, the A H1N1
pandemic, and the recklessness of some drivers on the road, but
also in handling our finances, we need to find means and ways to
manage our finances (personal or small business) so as to avoid
a big stressor for the day.
Here are a few suggestions which can give you ideas of how you can
manage your finances so that you can avoid a stressor that can
damage your health:
- always select the cheaper option when purchasing something,
to save on money (except for certain foods or medicines) - buy only things needed: food, medicines, gasoline, and other
basic needs of the family - avoid "snowballing" your financial obligations; once something
is due, if you already have the money, pay it early, so that you
are not stressed to pay many things all at once in the end - as an alternative to a garage sale, you can earn money by
selling bottles, paper, carton, metal, or plastics, to a business
that recycles these things - keep a tight check on your finances; don't lend big, only a
small amount which your borrower can easily repay - anticipate financial obligations three months ahead, and work
to save money for it - go with the flow of the economy; it is bigger than us or our
small business; when money is tight, let us not spend needlessly;
when there is money, buy all essential goods and save what is left
of our money (even though it may be a small amount); in a crisis,
every cent or centavo counts - never forget to trust in the Lord and His Providential Care;
prayer and faith expands our consciousness; it takes away the
financial stress that tightens our breathing into gasps; sitting
quietly and still before the Most Blessed Sacrament for half an
hour, or an hour, links us to God who is the Source of Life; after
such a religious experience, our breathing becomes deep and full,
helping us to slow down and work moderately and wisely, so as
not to damage our health for the long-term - let us not forget to be charitable; the more we give, the more
we receive; it may not be from the person whom we have been
kind and charitable, but it will certainly be from a person
whom God chooses as His means to reward us for the good we
have done - let us live a "bayanihan" spirit in our social network; as
family, friends, and significant persons in our life band and
bond together, support one another, a wealth of resources opens
up for each one in the social network; being good magnifies
a spirit of profit; being bad only leads to ruin and
destruction - both of our means of earning a living, and
our soul
